DRAWING FUNDAMENTALS
This four-course program is designed to provide students with the essential skills and techniques needed to build a strong foundation in observational drawing. Our program focuses on developing technical abilities and spatial awareness through a variety of drawing exercises and concepts. Students will learn how to observe and translate the world around them into accurate, expressive drawings.
The Drawing Fundamentals course consists of 4 units:
Perspective (5 classes)
Perspective is key in creating depth, proportion, and a sense of space in artwork. Students will learn one- and two-point perspectives. Recommended for students applying to school for architecture, interior design, and animation.
Sketching Basics/Still Life (5 classes)
Students will hone their observational drawing skills to accurately drawing what they see, not what they think they see, as they learn concepts like positive and negative space, value, and form.

Portrait Drawing (8 classes)
Learn the anatomy and proportions that are crucial for creating portraits and character designs. Students will learn the Loomis Method of drawing and use these skills to create realistic portraits and expressive character designs. Recommended for students applying to school for animation, illustration, and fine arts.
Figure Drawing (7 classes)
Learn the essential aspects of drawing the human form. Using image references, students will explore the intricacies of the body, learning to capture proportion and poses accurately. They'll use this knowledge to create character designs at the end of the unit. Recommended for students applying to school for animation, illustration, and fine arts.
Please note our Figure Drawing will NOT have live models.

PAINTING FUNDAMENTALS
The Painting Fundamentals program consists of two courses: Watercolour and Acrylic Painting, which introduce the essential techniques, concepts, and materials used in painting. This program provides students with the technical aspects of painting and the development of personal expression. Students will be introduced to different painting tools and materials, colour theory and painting techniques, which will culminate in painting their own composition at the end of each course.
Two-part course, to be taken in this order:
Watercolour Painting (5 classes)
Introduction to the unique qualities of watercolour, focusing on foundational techniques such as washes, layering, and blending. Students will explore colour theory and brushwork while learning to control the fluid and transparent nature of watercolour.
Acrylic Painting (5 classes)
Building on the skills from the watercolour course, this class focuses on the more opaque and versatile medium of acrylic paint. Students will learn painting techniques, including colour mixing, depicting light and shadow, and creating texture.
